Origami Money Hats!

Last December, I posted some incredible dollar bill origami pieces by the wicked talented Won Park and I was reminded of his work when I saw these fun pieces! We aren’t sure who is to be credited for creating these origami money hats but whoever it is, love goes out to him/her for putting a big ol’ smile on my (and maybe your) face.

SuperForester Nika Presents: D.I.Y. Homemade Paper CD Case!

Hey SuperForest!

Carla here, writing to you all from my cousin Nika’s kitchen. We were in the mood for some good ol’ crafty time. Naturally, we turned to instructables for some inspiration. Here’s Nika to share what we found:

What up SuperForest,

If you guys are anything like me, you burn CDs for friends or for yourself and often don’t have a case to store them in. I used to get some pieces of paper and fold them into a square to make a pocket, but those days are long gone. I present to you, the new homemade paper CD cases!

Here’s a video explaining how you make them.

So the CD cases are easy to make and totally usable, but the best part about them is…

THEY ARE SHOCK ABSORBENT! Lovely, maximum CD protection. :)))

Love,

Nika

DIY: Magic Rose Cube

In spirit of preparing to improve my SuperForest-ness in 2009, I decided to hand craft my mom’s birthday gifts this year. And a part of those gifts included one of these…

A Magic Rose Cube
Now I know what you’re thinking, “What’s so magical about it?” It’s a fair question, at a glance, this may look like an ordinary flower created out of paper but what makes this rose box special is the fact that it transforms!

Here are a couple videos that will help you make on of your own!

Gotta love that accent. Here are two friendly suggestions that will make your lives much easier if you decide to try this out.
1.) Make sure your folds and creases are perfect. I guess this is a given with any sort of origami art but for any beginners out there, it will definitely save you from possible problems.
2.) Don’t use construction paper like I did. The thick paper makes it difficult to fold toward the end.
And there you have it, a magical rose cube. Now, it took me a while and a whole lot of patience (being my first origami creation ever) but I was finally able to complete mine and if I can do it, you can definitely make one too.
(Here’s where you can find the videos and other how to guides that can kick start your own SuperForesty 2009)
Love to All,
Carla

Da Vinci Surgery Robot Used to Make Origami Crane

Smaller than a penny! Swank.

Nanorigami!

“Researchers at the USC Information Sciences Institute have demonstrated a way to manufacture miniscule containers that might be used to deliver precise micro- or even nano- quantities of drugs.

According to ISI project leader Peter Will, who is a research professor in the Viterbi School of Engineering, the new technique, described in a paper in the Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering, is a two-step process. Part one is the creation of flat patterns, origami, of exactly the fold up shapes familiar to kindergarten children making paper pyramids, cubes or other solids, except that these are as small as 30 micrometers on a side. (1 inch = 25,400 micrometers)”

Aaaaaaaahhhh!!! So cool! The science of small is so hot right now.

Slap a FedEx logo on the side, fire up the Matter Compiler, and we’re off!
