Alex Queral – Phonebook Art!

phonebookart

Hello Hello SuperForesters

Following Carla’s excellent ban the phone book post, I was doing a little digging to see if there’s a similar opt-in scheme here in the UK (unfortunately,  there doesn’t appear to be one …yet!) but I came across Philadelphia based artist Alex Queral, who has been creating 3D portraits from discarded phonebooks for the last 14 years!

He says:

“I was out looking for wood to make a sculpture one day and I noticed a huge pile of them on the pavement. I suddenly thought they would probably make a pretty good material for carving, so I gave it a go.”

Fun, eh? And a little more creative than the traditional phonebook repurposing as doorstop or wonky table prop!

Thursday Love!

Patricia

What an amazing art work..! I read this at my lunch break, and I was like… :o :D ;) I wanna know how he starts working on this art…I’m curious. Carving and painting a head from discarded phonebooks. Very Very smart!! Great finding, Patricia! Thank you!!
